Mens Reading Glasses

Welcome to our web site.  Here you will be able to find suppliers of fine quality mens reading glasses.  Styles for mens reading glasses have progressed greatly over the years, gone are the days of just a couple of choices, basic and just plain basic.  Today a full range of styles is available to suit anyone’s taste be it conservative to just downright cool. Silver, gold, flashy colors or the classic tortoise, frames, no-frames, compact to full size, today’s choices are so vast you may choose more than one pair to suit whatever mood you are in.
The reading glasses manufactured today are primarily made of lightweight metals and offer lightweight anti scratch and shatterproof lenses.  100% UV protection is available from some manufacturers.  Most frames will have a spring hinge on the temples to insure a comfortable fit.  All glasses come with a basic storage case but here too one can make a statement with the custom, color coordinated case choices available.
When choosing men's reading glasses there are a two considerations that most men pay attention to;

Comfort

For most men comfort is the number factor when choosing a pair of reading glasses.  A survey that was conducted by the Vision Council of America revealed that 88% of men said that comfort was the number one factor when choosing a pair of glasses. Look for reading glasses that feature a soft adjustable silicon nose pad.

Durability

The same survey from the Vision Council of America revealed that 59% of men considered durability as the main factor when choosing glasses.  The strongest and most durable frames are made of titanium and stainless steel.  These two are much stronger than other metals used for frames such as gold and aluminum.  For men who will be subjecting their glasses to some rough treatment, a material called Flexon is a good choice.  Flexon frames can be bent, twisted, tied in a knot and still return to its original shape.  They are very durable and almost impossible to break.

What about Style?

With so many choice out today there is going to be a design and a style that meets anyone’s need. Frames come in a few basic styles;

Half Frame

Just as its name implies, a half of a lens allowing the user to peer over the top for distant viewing.  Very good for use while working at the computer.

Full Frame

Full size lenses that allow for larger close-up viewing areas.  Ideal for hobbyist and avid readers.

Folding

Yes reading glasses are available in a folding version.  A case is available for storing these type of frames on the belt, keeping them close at hand.

Compact

These type are similar to a half frame except they are slightly smaller.  They fit into a case that is about the size of a cigar tube.  Our personnel favorite when out on activities such as fishing and golf.

When it comes to style most retailers note that when it comes to the style and design of the frame, most men will leave the choice up to their wives or girlfriends just as long as they have input based on the comfort and durability.

Reading glasses will help you focus on objects that are close to you. They are not intended to replace existing corrective lenses and do not work togeher with normal prescription glasses. They are intended to be worn either with the naked eye or combined with corrective contact lenses. Consult with your eye doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

What causes us to have to wear reading glasses?

Having to wear reading glasses is a normal process in all of us. It is the natural process of growing older. As we grow older the muscles in our eyes lose their elasticity. This causes us to lose our ability to focus on objects that are close to us. The condition is known as Presbyopia. It will normally start to show up around the age of 40.

What about Lasik or Contact Lenses?

If you have Lasik surgery you will still need reading glasses at about the same time as those who don’t. Lasik takes care of near and far sightedness but there is nothing that can be done for Prebyopia.

Contact lens wearers commonly wear reading glasses with their contacts. Some new advances in contact lenses allow for some people to get fitted with contacts that will eliminate the need for reading glasses. This cannot be done for everybody however. You must be fortunate that you have the exact same prescription in both eyes and that you have no Astigmatism. This issue eliminates about 70% of contact lens users.
